Students must meet Shadyside High School’s Course Requirements

English— 4 credits

Math— 4 credits

Science—3 credits

Social Studies—3 credits

Health— 1/2 credit

Economics-- 1/2 credit

Phys. Ed.— 1/2

Information Technology— 1 credit

Fine Arts— 1 credit

Electives—5 credits

-Students in the graduating class of 2024 will need 26 credits to graduate.

Part 2: Show Competency

****Students must earn a score of 684 on both the Algebra 1 and English 10 End of Course Exams.

Alternate Part 2 pathways if unable to score 684 on both exam re-tests:

Alternate Option 1.--College Credit Plus – Earn college credit in a non-remedial math or English course (for the subject area not passed) to demonstrate competency. 

Alternate Option 2.-- Career Experience and Technical Skill – Complete two demonstrations to show competency, at least one of which must be a foundational option. 

Foundational: 

-Earn a score of proficient or higher on three or more WebXams in a single career pathway;

-Earn a 12-point approved industry-recognized credential or group of credentials totaling 12 points
in a single career field;

-Complete a pre-apprenticeship in the student’s chosen career field or, for students ages 18 and older, show evidence of acceptance into an apprenticeship after graduation.

Supporting: 

-Complete a 250-hour work-based learning experience with evidence of positive evaluations; 

-Earn the workforce readiness score on WorkKeys; or 

-Earn the OhioMeansJobs-Readiness Seal.

Alternate Option 3. --Military Readiness – Competency can be achieved by meeting the requirements to enlist in the military, which can be demonstrated by a contract with the military to enlist upon graduation (see the Military Enlistment Seal guidelines for more information about enlistment).

Part 3.  Demonstrate Readiness (Graduation Seals)

State Seals:

  1. Military Readiness Seal: Must achieve required scores on the ASVAB and complete Oath of Enlistment. Evidence of Enlistment will be a signed copy of the Department of Defense Form (DD Form 4).

  2. Ohio Means Jobs Seal: Must work with at least 3 mentors across at least 2 of 3 settings (School, Work Place, Community). Must demonstrate proficiency in 15 different professional skills

  1. Industry-Recognized Credential Seal: 

Earn a 12-point industry-recognized credential; or 

Earn a group of credentials totaling 12 points in a single career field.

  1. Technology Seal:

Complete a technology course that meets the criteria of the Ohio Department of Education 

Students must take an information technology course @ Shadyside High School.

Must earn a C or better 

  1. Science Seal:

—Score proficient or higher on the Biology End of Course Exam. Proficient score (3), in terms of earning this seal will be 700 or higher.


6.Citizenship Seal: 

—Score proficient or higher on both the American History and Government End of Course Exams. Proficient score (3), in terms of earning this seal will be 700 or higher.

  1. College Readiness Seal: 

—Must Earn Remediation Free Scores on the ACT or SAT

—Remediation Free Scores ACT:  English-18, Reading- 22, Math- 22

—Remediation Free Scores SAT:  -Evidence Based Reading and Writing- 480, 

Mathematics- 530.

—Must meet Honors Diploma Requirements:

  1. Seal of Biliteracy: 

English:

— Must Demonstrate Proficiency in both English Language and at least one other world language.

—Option 1 for English—Earn a proficient level or higher on Ohio’s required state tests for high school English language arts. 700 on English 10 End of Course Exam.

—Option 2 for English—Earn Remediation Free Scores on English and Reading sections of ACT or SAT: English-18 Reading-22 (ACT) ///Reading and Writing- 480 (SAT).

Local Seals:

  1. Community Service Seal:

—Obtain 40 hours of community service

—Fire Dept., Church, Municipal Building, Local Businesses. 

—Record hours onto a document/log sheet and turn in. Hours must be signed off on by supervisor of chosen organization. 

  1. Student Engagement Seal:

—Participate in 4 seasons of sports, clubs/school organizations. Must have an official supervisor/advisor for each.

—Examples: Sports teams, Stay Clean Club, Student Council, NHS.

  1. Fine Arts Performing Seal: 

—Participate in 4 different Fine Arts events: Marching Band, Art shows, Plays/Theatre Productions, etc.
